Modified on Wed, 11 May, 2022 at 3:14 PM

Applies to: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7

As per Microsoft, name changes in the M365 platform can take up to 60 days to reflect correctly. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BY AMS IT!

Resolutions:

These steps are handy if you are experiencing any of the following issues with Microsoft Teams:

- Incorrect user names

- Caching issues with old credentials

- Teams messages not appearing correctly

- Images not appearing correctly

- User Display names not appearing correctly

Step 1:

As a first step, sign out of Teams completely, and sign back in. This usually solves most caching issues. This can be done by clicking on your name in the top right of Teams, then selecting 'Sign Out'.

Step 2:

If that does not resolve the issue, download the attached PowerShell script (at the bottom of the page) and run it by right clicking on it in Windows and choosing 'Run With PowerShell'. You may see some messages about errors on the screen, this is normal as the script closes your Teams application and clears any cached information.

After the script has run, you can re-open Teams. It may ask you to sign back in.

Step 3:

If this does not work, the last step is to try clearing your Outlook AutoComplete Cache (which Teams relies on).

In the Outlook application for desktop:

  1. Open the Outlook program on your computer.
  2. Compose a new message and start typing in the "To:" field the person's name you are having an issue with.
  3. The account will pop up with the wrong user's name. Click the little X beside their name to wipe it from your cache. The next time you search for a name it should show up correctly.
  4. Sign out of Teams and sign back in.

In the Outlook application on the Web:

  1. Sign into https://outlook.office.com
  2. Compose a new message and start to type in the name of the person you are having a problem with, just as in the steps above:
  3. The account will pop up with incorrect information. Click the X beside their name to wipe it from your cache. The next time you search for a name it should show up correctly.
  4. Sign out of Teams and sign back in.
