Add Additional Users To MFA

Modified on Fri, 1 Sep, 2023 at 10:59 AM

There are certain situations where accounts warrant having additional users added to their MFA accounts. For example, the front desk may have up to 5+ more staff that all monitor a single account. Users do not want to have to contact one person for MFA codes all the time.

Below are instructions on how to add more users to the account so they can all receive MFA codes.

IMPORTANT: The following guide require uses to setup the Microsoft Authenticator app on their phones. It can be downloaded on Android here and on Apple iOS here.

Download the Microsoft Authenticator App

Use the links above to download the Microsoft Authenticator app for Android or Apple iOS from the links above. This is the preferred method to receive MFA codes as you do not need to enter generated numbers. You will just be required to click an allow button, making it easier to sign in.

Sign into you Microsoft Account

The first step will be to have someone with existing access sign into your Microsoft Account through https://login.microsoftonline.com

Access Account Settings

Once signed into your Microsoft Account, click on your profile picture in the top right of the screen and navigate to 'View Account' as shown below.

Navigate to 'Security Info'

Click on 'Security Info' on the left side of the page to access your current sign in methods as shown in the photo below. Ensure that the default sign in method is set as Microsoft Authenticator and then click on 'Add Sign-In Method'

In the window that opens, make sure you select 'Authenticator App' as the method that users will use to authenticate.

Follow Prompts to Add New Account

Walk through the steps provided by Microsoft and have the new user add the Microsoft Authenticator app to their phone and scan the QR code provided by Microsoft and enter the verification.

You're finished!

Congratulations, now both users can sign in with the authenticator app. Repeat this process for any user that needs access!
